What is Occupational Health?

Occupational health is a field of health care made up of multiple disciplines dedicated to the well-being and safety of employees in the workplace. It has a strong focus on injury prevention and employee education. At SATS Urgent Care we offer a wide variety of Occupational Health services to fit any company’s needs. SATS Urgent Care, formerly Health Awareness Enterprises has been a leader in the drug and alcohol testing industry in Savannah since 1987. We began offering drug screening for employment and TWIC enrollment and expanded our services over the years to include a broad-spectrum of coverage including Drug and Alcohol testing, DOT Physicals, Pulmonary and Respiratory testing, EKG’s, Audiograms, Background checks and MVR’s, DNA testing and much, much more!

Occupational health is an area of work in public health to promote and maintain highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations. The science and practice of occupational health involves several disciplines, such as occupational medicine, nursing, ergonomics, psychology, hygiene, safety and other.

Drug screening for employment

One of our primary focuses is on drug and alcohol screening for job performance. This includes pre-placement screenings, workplace drug screenings, and random drug and alcohol testing. Drug tests and screenings help you as an employer create a safer, more productive work environment. We have several tests that provide an employer with important information about their employees’ health. Most tests and screenings are fast, easy, and convenient to help streamline an employer’s hiring processes. SATS Urgent Care performs a wide range of tests, including audiograms, respiratory tests and pulmonary function testing.

Work-related injuries

Many injuries occur in the workplace and while SATS Urgent Care is an urgent care clinic we provide services related to those injuries that arise in the workplace. Our Occupational Health services focus on work-related injuries and illnesses. Our trained physicians diagnose and treat work-related injuries much more effectively than most primary care physicians. They’re up to date on federal and state regulations for workforce health and safety, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) so they can provide you or your business with the best treatment plans and perform regulatory examinations. SATS Urgent Care often works directly with employers to keep businesses running smoothly and employees safe and healthy on the job.

Background checks and MVR’s

Conducting a pre-employment MVR check makes sense if you have employees driving on behalf of your company. Just like other screenings, such as criminal background checks, an MVR check will help you make informed hiring decisions. (And for DOT-regulated businesses, MVR checks are required.) Some MVR’s can be performed while you wait. While there’s no national database for MVR reports we obtain them through the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Some states will carry over violations from a previous state’s MVR and place it on the person’s new driving record. Some won’t. It’s important to note that each state has its own rules and regulations regarding how records are updated and accessed, and whether records can be expunged.

Employment Physicals

SATS Urgent Care provides many employers with the benefits of employment physicals. These physicals help businesses stay in compliance with many workplace regulations. Some of these, like commercial truck driving, are regulated by government agencies to protect both the driver and the public. Exams such as Fit-for-duty and Respiratory mask fit testing are vital to the health and well-being of the employee. We also offer travel medicine for employees who must travel overseas for their jobs, as well as Blood Profiles (CBC/CMP/PSA/LFT). This also provides employers insight into the safety of their workplace. If an employee is subject to exposure to dangerous chemicals, metals, etc. while on the job, this can show in their blood profile, helping employers determine if an employee is at risk or are being exposed to something while on the job.
